Order of Operations

Order of Operations Remember to
1. Look inside the grouping symbols first; and use the rules below to simplify
2. Look for exponents and recall (-3)^2 and -3^2 do not mean the same thing. Which means to write the negative twice, as well as, the 3? then
3. RETURN to LEFT side of expression, then going to the right : do multiply or divide as you come to them.
4. RETURN to LEFT side, then going to the right : do add or subtract as you come to them.
