Transitive and Intransitive verbs
Transitive verbs take a direct object. Intransitive verbs cannot take a direct object. In Latin, certain intransitive verbs take an indirect object, where in English they may take a direct object. The words for believe, command, displease, distrust, envy, favor, harm, help, obey, oppose, pardon, persuade, please, resist, serve, spare, threaten, and trust fall into this category.
