BBFSTEP-BY-STEP PROCEDURE FOR BALANCING RATIONS BY THE PEARSON SQUARE METHOD:
Draw a square box that measures about 1 inches on the sides.
Place the percent protein wanted in finished ration in center of box and draw diagonal lines to each corner.
Place the percent of protein of feed ingredients on the outside top left and bottom corners. (place smaller number on the top).
Subtract diagonally (outside percentage minus inside percent) and place answer on the right side (top and bottom) of square. Dont be concerned with negative and positive numbers.
Add the two numbers on the right hand side of square and divide the sum into each part to get a percentage. Be careful where you place your decimals.
There are 2000 pounds in one ton. So multiply the percentage of each ingredient (answers obtained in step 5) times 2000 and you will know how many pounds of each ingredient should be added for one ton of feed
