Tests and Quizzes

You will be given a midterm exam, a class final exam prepared by the teacher of this section, and a standard Departmental Final exam. The midterm and class final exams will include compositions. You will be given frequent quizzes over assigned material.

  

Homework

Homework will be required for almost every class. You are required to complete all homework on time. Some homework will be completed in your textbook; other homework will be written on separate paper and handed in to me. Homework that you hand in will be graded according to the following system:

  

A, A-

Excellent

Correct your mistakes  on the same page and keep it in your portfolio.

B+, B

Very Good

Correct your mistakes  on the same page and keep it in your portfolio.

B-, C+, C

Satisfactory

Correct your mistakes  on the same page and give it to me to check .

D, F

Unsatisfactory

Revise and rewrite your work  on another page and return both papers to me in the next class.  

  

Portfolio

You are required to keep an organized portfolio including all of your correct classwork, homework, and lab work for ENC 011.

  

Grammar Lab

Your are required to do the work from the grammar lab.

  

Participation

You are expected to demonstrate your ability to apply grammar by participating actively in English in speaking and writing activities. Please feel free to ask questions in class when you don't understand.

  

Attendance

You are required to attend all classes. Four or more absences can result in a grade of F. If you must be absent, you are responsible for finding out about and making up the work you missed. The irregular quizzes cannot be made up. The other quizzes can be made up if you contact me immediately and take the quiz before the next class.

  

Lateness

You are required to come to class on time. If you arrive after attendance is taken, you will be marked absent unless you see me after class with a good excuse. If you arrive late, come in quietly and don't interrupt the class. Two late arrivals will count as one absence.

  

Language

YOU ARE REQUIRED TO SPEAK ENGLISH AT ALL TIMES IN CLASS!

  

Grading

Final grades will be based on the following criteria.

  

Homework and Participation:       10%

Quizzes:                                        20%

Midterm exam:                             10%

Class Final Exam:                         30%

Department Final Exam:               30%

  

  

If you have a problem and cannot finish the semester, see me or a counselor IMMEDIATELY for an official withdrawal. If you stop attending and do not complete a withdrawal form, you will receive a final grade of F for the course.
