Splawn – Ext: 5670 or csplawn@yumaed.org Required Textbooks: Reading material will be provided: newspapers, classroom books Course Description: We provide all the resources needed to help students become independent users of small woodshop machine technology and general landscaping. Through this technology we can provide students with job study skills and a natural work environment. Give students a successful transition from school to work by providing students with basic shop setting along with training in obtaining a successful job placement. These skill include ability to communicate effectively, problem solve and understand the roll of computers. Other skills you will need to succeed include the ability to dress appropriately for work and to work safely on the job. Students will be given the opportunity to develop good leadership skills and responsibilities. Course Objectives: Students will be taught · job interviews · how to set up a checking and saving account · city transportation ( YCAT) · measurements · projects · team work · job applications (paper and online) · time management · safety · equipment repair · introduction to small landscaping tools · basic plant science · basic seasonal planting · plant identification · poisonous plant identification · field trips · water management Student Learning Outcomes: By the end of the class, student will know 1. How to interview for job placement 2. How to open a checking and saving account 3. Ability to use public transportation 4. Be able to identify and understand the different types of plants 5. How to fill out job applications on paper and online 6. Basic safety Attendance: Every student is required to attend class on a daily basis. Attendance is very important! Grading: Students will be graded on class participation and daily assignments.
