From: Ronald Brown Sent: Thursday, January 27, 2005 8:46 AM Subject: Algebra this week (1/27) Algebra Parents: We are starting a new unit on Powers and Exponents this week (Chapter 8 in Larson textbook). I will be giving back the unit test we took last Thursday to the students today. Students were allowed to bring one page of notes (a legal "cheat sheet"), but many did not bother to make this effort. The test consisted of two parts: *10 multiple choice questions that in general the students did well on. *3 problems using the 3 different techniques we had discussed in class - results were more varied on this part and students tended to do very well or very poorly. That test will be the last grade for the second marking period. As always I suggest that you ask your child how they did on the test. If they are not satisfied with their score ask them to think about how they can do better in the future. If they think they did well, ask them to reflect on what study strategies they used to do well. As always, the schedule for the class with homework assignments is posted at http://www.quia.com/pages/bhsbrownalg1.html. If you have any questions feel free to contact me. Mr. Brown
