Subject: 	Algebra This Week (1/31)

Algebra Parents:

This week we are continuing our unit on Powers and Exponents this week
 (Chapter 8 in Larson textbook). We will be having a quiz on the first
 section (8.1) tomorrow (Tuesday). This quiz will be closed book and
 notebook. In the last unit most of the quizzes were open notebook. I
 am going back to closed book for this quiz. The students only need to
 know three properties and how to apply them. I feel they should be
 able to handle that responsibility. Also, the quiz will have a
 matching section so they don't have to memorize the properties cold,
 just be able to recognize them and match them. Of course they also
 need to be able to apply them to problems similar to problems from the
 homework. 

We will probably have another quiz on Thursday as well. As always the
 schedule for the class, with assignments, is posted on the web at
 http://www.quia.com/pages/bhsbrownalg1.html.
