MCGINNIS
PHYSICAL EDUCATION
CLASSROOM
GUIDELINES
Chewing gum
is to be thrown away in this class.
Keep low
volume voices in the locker room.
Horseplay or rough housing will not be tolerated at any time.
Students
must remain out of the gym and locker room before school, therefore, students
must remember to bring all items to class; students will be permitted in the
locker room after school.
All students
shall dress for each physical education class in appropriate attire. The uniform shall consist of tennis shoes
appropriately tied (tie
or Velcro--no slip on shoes),
athletic socks, and Plano P.E. shirt and Plano P.E. shorts. The appropriate
uniform in physical education allows freer movement than street clothes, is
less hazardous in activities (no buttons, large zippers, belts or buckles), and
promotes better hygiene for the student and the school population. As a further safety precaution, jewelry
will be removed when deemed inappropriate.
P.E.
uniforms are required to be marked only with studentÕs name, i.e., no
graffiti or cutting the uniform, i.e. sleeves, sides of shirt, neckline,
length, etc.
Clean uniforms
will be available and mandatory for any student who forgets any or all of the
uniform or tennis shoes to allow participation each day. Students will be
charged one dollar ($1.00) per item used.
A telephone call will be made at the end of each week to inform the
parent(s) of the new charges to the studentÕs account. For hygienic reasons it shall not be
permissible to lend or borrow another person's p.e. clothes.
Refusal to dress
out appropriately for activities of the day shall be treated as a discipline issue .
On SIP (School
Improvement) Days), we will have physical education class, although the class
will be shortened. We will not
dress for class, but each student MUST
STILL HAVE TENNIS SHOES for class!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
A daily
grade will include full engagement in the activity, effort, participation,
proper attitude, on time for class, and care of p.e. equipment. Some
activities in class will be assessed for performance sequences, knowledge of the rules of the game, rules of play, and/or
safety. Students may be responsible for replacing abused equipment.
Students
must keep individual possessions in each assigned locker with a lock issued by
the school. Each student is
responsible for keeping her locker locked when not in the locker room, even if
the locker is empty. Lost locks
will cost $20.00 (lock must be accessible to teacher and administration school
keys).
Each
student will supply her own deodorant, feminine hygiene products, and quarters
for hygiene products.
Students
should be sensitive to and possibly refrain from using perfumes and sprays that
contain floral scents around fellow classmates sensitive or allergic to these
items. Never spray anything at
another person. For every studentÕs
safety, there will be NO GLASS
CONTAINERS—they drop, break, and shards of glass go everywhere,
especially in the soles of feet.
Restrooms are to
be used as just that and not as a changing area.
If a student is
absent from class due to anything other than the absence being school related,
your grade will be deducted three points each time you are absent from
class. This is due to a portion of
your grade being based on participation and if you are not here, you are not
participating.
If a student
would like to make up the three points for her grade during that grading period,
she may do so by running a mile on the treadmill before or after school. It is up to the student to make
arrangements with the teacher to do so.
If the student
presents a doctorÕs note to the school nurse, the student will be excused from p.e. class until the date so noted
from the doctor, however, an alternate
assignment of a written report will be given to the student each day the
student is not participating in class.
Band students
will be excused from p.e. class
during each sectional time.
Students are
expected to participate everyday they are at school. If the student has an injury, Mrs.
McGinnis will make every effort to safely work around the injury so that the
student is participating. Any
student missing required physical fitness testing will
have that portion of the test made up at a later time.
A note from a
parent can only be honored for no more than one day (per the Plano Middle
School Handbook). Students will
be given an alternate assignment of a written report to work on (and take home
to work if more time is needed).
The assignment is due the next class day.
Students will
always participate in p.e. class
regardless of menstruation and/or cramps.
Once
the tardy bell rings for class, returning to your hallway locker to retrieve
any part of your uniform, shoes, or anything else is forbidden.
The rationale is that
students are then not a distraction to other classrooms in session, a
distraction in the hallway, late getting ready for p.e.
class and missing exercises, as well as missing any
teacher instructions and/or game rules for the day.
Keeping
students physically, mentally, and emotionally healthy is the goal. LetÕs have fun and get healthy!!
