| Sample | part of the population upon which an experiment or survey is conducted |
| Survey | method to collect data from a sample to study some characteristic of the group |
| Representive sample | A sample which is representaive of the population from which it is drawn |
| biased sample | a sample which is not representive of the population from which it is drawn |
| statistics | numerical data that have been collected and analyzed |
| random sampling | means of provideing a representive sample, where each member of the population has an equal chance of being chosen |
| range | the difference between the greatest and least set of numbers |
| mean | the sum of the values in a data set divided by the number of values |
| median | the middle value when a set of numbers is listed from least to greatest |
| mode | the number or numbers that occur most often in a set of data |
| maximum | the greatest value in a set of numbers |
| minimum | the least value in a set of numbers |
| Frequency table | a table to organize data by showing the number of values that fall in particular groups |
| interval | sets of numbers with the same range to reresent data |
| line plot | a plot that shows the shape of a data set by stacking Xs above each value or interval on a number line |
| outlier | a number very different from the other numbers in a data set |
| stem and leaf plot | a frequency distribution that arranges data in order of place value, the leaves are the last dights of numbers; the steams are the dights to the left of the leaves |
| axis | either of two lines drawn perpendicular to each other in a graph |
| double bar graph | a graph that uses pairs of bars to compare infromation |
| line graph | a graph used to show changes over a period of time |
| trend | a clear direction in a line graph suggesting how the data will behave in the future |
| double line graph | a graph that uses pairs of lines to compare infromation |

| sector | a region bounded by two radii and arc |
| tree diagram | Adiagram used to orgnize all the possible outcomes in a sample space. |
| counting principle | If one choice cam be made in m ways and a second choice cam be made in n ways, then the two choices can be made together in m x n ways. |
| event | An outcome or set of outcomes of an experiment or situation. |
| outcome | The result in a prbability experiment. |
