The Jews were told to pack a suitcase and to bring tools of their trade. Some trips took days others took more than a week. The cattle cars were sealed and they were given a bucket for bodily needs. The cars were freezing cold in the winter and suffocatingly hot in the summer. The stench was overwhelming. When the doors were opened upon arrival, grateful passengers though that the worst ordeal was behind them. Many of them died during the deportations. |
