It is amazing how fast the first semester flew by. We are so proud of how much the children have learned! The second half of the year will be just as exciting as the first. During the fourth six weeks we will be doing the following things: Reading: The children have become wonderful readers. We will be focusing on using reading strategies to determine unknown words, as well as increasing our reading fluency. Keep practicing the weekly vocabulary words. Some of the skills we will be working on this six weeks include cause and effect, making predictions, and drawing conclusions. We will also try to determine the problems in a story. Writing: We will be introducing the writing process and begin writing drafts. Phonics: All 70 phonograms have been introduced!! We will continue practicing these daily and relating them to our reading and writing. Science: We are focusing on systems parts and wholes, air and water, and dental health. Social Studies: The students will understand how historical figures helped to shape our community, state, and nation. The historical figures covered will be MLK, Lincoln, Washington. We will also be discussing the concept of time and chronology. Math: The skills we will work on are: number concept - compare and order whole numbers through 99 place value- create sets of tens and ones greater than/less than - comparing numbers through 999 skip counting - count by two's, fives, and tens time - to the hour and half hour THINGS TO LOOK FORWARD TO: Family Snowman Project - Jan. 22nd 100th day of school - Jan. 18th LASSO Day - "Our Body and Health" - Feb. 8th
