Sra. Veronica Puente-Windle World Languages Department The Albany Academies 2007-8 windlev@albanyacademies.org 465-1461 ext. 328 ¡Bienvenidos a Español Quinto grado! Welcome to Sra. Windle’s Spanish class. I am very pleased to have you as my student. We will have an exciting time learning a second language this year. Learning another language will help you expand your personal horizons and become a responsible citizen. Your ability to talk to others and gather information beyond the world of English will contribute to your community and your country. A variety of activities are planned to stimulate your learning. The goal of the Spanish 5 Course is to enable students to reach a basic level of proficiency in the four skills of language study: reading, writing, speaking and listening. This will be accomplished through a variety of speaking exercises, conversations reading selections and writing assignments. You will keep a journal of every composition that is assigned for homework. We will be using technology and focusing on communication through a method called TPR (Total Physical Response). This method is based on brain search and current language acquisition theory, and it is fun! This will entail songs, storytelling reading, skits, games occasional audiovisual presentations (videos, slides, etc), book activities and culture days. You will be also required to create your own dictionary and short stories as part of TPR homework. In addition to examining selected works, we’ll begin to explore the history, economics and politics of the Spanish-speaking people of the world. Rules and Expectations Come to class prepared to work.
