Welcome to Takin' Care of Business

What do going away to college, starting a new job, and running a business have in common? Managing MONEY! In this course students will learn how to manage their finances and use credit wisely, whether they are going away to college, starting a new job, or running a business.

Students will use generally accepted accounting principles in Part A as they learn how to manage a service business operating as a sole proprietorship; in Part B a merchandising business operating as a partnership; and in Part C a not-for-profit business organized as a corporation. As a final project, students will set up a simulated business and bring it through one complete business cycle. Students will learn to use QuickBooks with the Reinforcement activities and the final projects.

Grades are based on chapter problems, class projects, discussions, test, quizzes, final project, and effort. Learn how to take care of your financial future now.

Below are the class expectations:

CLASS WORK: Daily class notes, vocabulary terms/audit questions, workbook assignments, discussions, and video presentations comprise the classwork grade. All assigned work is due three days prior to the end of the marking period.  A “zero” is given for classwork if you are absent during a video or guest speaker presentation.

QUIZZES: Quizzes will be given to prepare for chapter tests. Various web-based quizzes on financial literacy will be assigned throughout the course.

TESTS: Tests are similar to the mastery problems but may include vocabulary, multiple choice, and/or true/false sections as well.  Reinforcement activities are projects that comprise multiple chapters and are open book tests. They are weighted twice. Reinforcements will be marked late if students are absent the day it is due.

ABSENCES : Make up missed class assignments when absent. Obtain class notes from "buddy" and handouts from teacher.

MAKE UP: Failed tests or quizzes may be retaken. Make up missed classwork, tests, and quizzes within one week. Make up work will be accepted up to three days before the end of the marking period.
