About NHS
Membership in National Honor Society is an honor bestowed on a student by the faculty at Athens Drive High School. Students must have a minimum of a 3.8 GPA at the beginning of their junior year and must have demonstrated outstanding scholarship, character and leadership and service to school and community through their first two years at Athens. Adequate service to school is generally determined by participation in at least 3 sports or clubs. Service to community is determined by participation in at least 3 one-time organized community events, or by one year-round activity such as scouting or other service organizations. Chapter by-laws are attached.
Determination of qualified students is determined in September and October of the junior or senior year and students receive an invitation to attend inductions by mid-November. Students who have transferred from another school and believe they might qualify should contact an advisor as soon as possible.
Hours Opportunities Remember.... Hours must be signed by the supervising adult or board member!
1. Memorial Garden. .
2. Ask teachers if they need help! They especially need it at the end of the quarter, so don't be afraid to ask!
3. Jordan Oaks Bingo Nights
4. Imagine No Hunger (check the bulletin board for info)
5. Tutoring (either contacted through NHS or coordinated on your own with a a librarian or parent's signature)
6. Penny Road Tutoring (a weekly commitment, contact Haylea for more information)
Reminders
1. Bring your hours sheets and get them signed when you complete an activity for an hour!
2. The general meetings are the first Thursday of every month during SMART lunch in the auditorium.
3. Check the NHS board by the math pod
4. You must complete a Memorial Garden hour sometime during the 2009-2010 school year. You must cover your Monitoring hour on the day assigned.
5. Make sure you are receiving NHS emails. If not, please confirm your email address!
6. If you are assigned to tutor, you must report to the location and during the lunch assigned. You are responsible for finding the replacement.
