Here is some helpful information:

Now is the time to begin to prepare for future assignments: Monthly Reading Requirements, Quest Assignments, timelines for ancient civilizations, math study and Young Author's (writing competition, Women's History Project, African American History Project, and Japan Research Project. Information about the projects and assignments will be provided.

Current themes we are studying includes Ancient Civilizations, Earth Science (Weather & Space), Number Theory & Expository Writing. 

Email accounts are available to all students in room 305. If you have not signed the release form for your child to use the Internet, please ask Ms. Manning for a duplicate form (Attachment A).   Email is provided by Gaggle.net and is monitored by Ms. Manning.  Gaggle.net accounts are set up to only allow email to and from individuals who have a gaggle.net email account.  This includes all student in room 305; Ms. Manning; Dr. Carl Lawson, principal; Dr. G. McClinton, asst. principal; and Mrs. F. Williams, technology coordinator, and Ms. Watkins. 

Did you know your child has homework every night?  See the handouts distributed by Ms. Manning for a description of assignments and projects that impacted grades for the 1st marking period and those that will impact future grades.  Please keep in mind students have the opportunity to seek additional help from Ms. Manning after-school on Tuesday’s from 1:45 pm – 5:00 pm.  All students in room 305 are required to attend an academic-based after school program.   See the bottom of the Student Progress Report that is attached to the report card for information about required after school programs for your child.

Gear-Up, a national program affiliated with the University of Chicago and Price, operates a tutoring program every Saturday from 7:45 am – 1:00 pm at U of C.  Parents may complete the Success Club application while meeting with Gear-Up representatives on during Report Card Pick Up.  If you need further information about Success Club, please notify Ms. Manning.  Also, Gear-Up provides tutors during the after-school program for students.  All students in room 305 have been assigned a schedule for tutoring. 

MARK YOUR CALENDARS!

Price Science Fair will be held in December.  Participants representing room 305 are: Vanessa Washington, Anneva Beathea, Jasmine Ainsworth, Daniel Travis, Amez Young, Jessica Ambrose, and Lance Collins.  Participation depends upon satisfactory improvement by 11/21/01. 

High School Fair on Saturday, November 17, 2001 at McCormick Place sponsored by Gear-Up.  All 6th – 8th grade students and their parents should attend this event in order to plan for the transition from elementary school to high school.  Please notify Ms. Manning or Gear-Up representatives if you or your child would like to attend.

The Greater Chicago Food Depository is sponsoring a food drive November 12-16, 2001.  Students are asked to bring in non-perishable/dried foods during this week.  See flyer previously distributed for more details.  Any student who donates 5 or more items will receive a homework pass.
 
National Children’s Book Week is November 12–18, 2001.  Get Carried Away…Read!  Students will participate by reading aloud from their favorite book.

Chicago Public Schools will be closed on Thursday, November 22 & Friday, November 23, 2001 for Thanksgiving. 

Student fees are $25.  See Mrs. Sistrunk in the Main Office to submit fees.
