Unit 3: Career Planning and Training

3.0 Evaluate career goals in terms of experience, knowledge and skills needed to achieve them.

This unit should take approximately four weeks to complete. You will take your mid-term exam upon completing this unit.

3.01 Understand the personal education and skill requirements necessary for transition from secondary education to post-secondary education or employment.

1. Read page 244 and then see Mrs. Ray or Ms. Murray and go over your transcript and what it tells about you. Be aware that your transcript is what goes on when you apply to a college or transfer to another school.

2. Visit Career Center on Community Colleges or College Foundation of North Carolina to research college programs. Then complete page 240 – 241 for the college of your choice.

3. Read pages 269 – 283 in your binder.

4. Complete Whatever is Worth Writing is Worth Proofreading, on page 245.

5. Red pages 272 – 277 in your binder and then complete pages 247 – 248 using Chapter 14, Researching Careers, starting on page 263 to complete the worksheets.

6. Complete page 255, Sharpen the Saw.

7. Complete page 259 My Non0Work Experience. .

8. With Mrs. Ray, complete your four-year career plan.

9. Complete page 261.

10. Complete quiz 3.01. If you obtain an 85% or higher move on to 3.02. If not, review everything you have completed and take it again. If you still do not have 85% or above then see Mrs. Ray for additional assignments.

3.02 Check the progression of formal and informal learning experiences toward achieving personal and career goals.

1. Using COA as a basis and a career field that interests you, complete pages 294 – 295.

2. Select a four year college in North Carolina and complete pages 296 – 297.

3. Select a career field that interests you an a level that can be obtained through a trade or technical school and complete pages. 298 – 299

5. Complete quiz 3.02. If you have not obtained an 85% or better, review your work then retest.

Mid-Term Exam

Retake if you do not earn an 85% or better. If you do not earn an 85% or better then see Mrs. Ray for additional review.
