Unit 4: Alternative Input Devices
This is the unit that should be entitled play toys! It covers everything from the whiteboard in the classroom to pocket PC's (also known as PDA's) to GPS. You will get to experience as many of these input devices as available in the classroom. No more than 12 hours of class time should be needed for this unit.
Unit 4.01: .
1. Review PowerPoint slide show 4.01 with Mrs. Ray.
2. Using page B4-11 in your binder you are to complete a poster on one of the devices listed there. You must get your device approved first as each student will do a different device. You will share with the class what you have learned.
3. Obtain the tablet from Mrs. Ray. Then you will use the handwriting recognition (Journal) program to write the FBLA Code of Ethics found on page B4-13. You will then convert it to text and save it to a flash drive and then take it to your computer and print it. Be sure to put your name and B-13 in the header of your document before printing.
4. Webcam: Using a computer with a webcam attached, create a two minute video presentation on a topic of your choice. You may do it on your favorite vacation, the job you held over the summer or similar appropriate topic. You will then play it back for Mrs. Ray.
5. Video-Camera. Check out the video camera from Mrs. Ray and then take a video of another student discussing their favorite class in school. We will then play the video back.
6. Camera. Use the digital camera to take a picture of something in the school that interests you (The bathrooms are off limits for this assignment). You will then insert the photo into a Word document (it may be no larger than 1/2 page). You will then fill the page with a paragraph or two (no larger than 14 point font size) describing what is in the picture and why you found it interesting.
7. Scanner. Take page B4-15 in your binder and scan it into the computer. I then want you to edit the document so you have replaced "Becky Cruiser" with your name. Change the title by replacing Joe with your name. Before printing, put your name and Scanner Activity B4-15 in the header of your document.
8. Complete Quiz 4.01. If you do not earn a grade of 85% on this quiz, then you must retake the quiz.

Unit 4.02: Handheld Devices
1. Review PowerPoint slideshow 4.02 with Mrs. Ray.
2. Complete page B4-27. Turn in with your name on it!
3. Read pages B4-30 and 31 prior to completing Quiz 4.02 below.
4. Complete Quiz 4.02. If you do not earn a grade of 85% on this quiz, then you must retake the quiz.
Unit 4.03 Handheld Applications
1. Review PowerPoint slideshow 4.03 with Mrs. Ray.
2. Use the address book on the PDA to complete page B4-53. Pages B4-54 and 55 explain how. Show to Mrs. Ray when done.
3. Complete page B4-58 and turn in.
4. Use the notes feature and beam notes back and forth with another classmate. If there is not another student available, beam notes to Mrs. Ray. All notes will be reviewed and deleted. ;-)
5. Using page B4-12 and the handwriting recognition on your PDA key the FBLA Creed. When finished, you are to sync it (synchronize) it and print it from your computer. Be sure to put your name on it as well as PDA B4-12 in the heading!
6. Complete Quiz 4.03. If you do not earn a grade of 85% on this quiz, then you must retake the quiz.
Exam 4.0
1. Complete Exam 4.0. If you earn an 85% or higher go on to Unit 6. If you do not earn a grade of 85% on this quiz, then you must retake the exam after reviewing:
1. Retake the quizzes for this unit..
2. Complete the PDA Exploration Assignment in your folder or binder after page B4-65.
3. Review the worksheets completed for this assignment. Correct any you missed.
4. Retake the exam 4.0. If you do not earn an 85% or higher see Mrs. Ray for additional coursework. If you earned an 85% or higher go on to unit 6.
