Teacher: Ms. A. Robinson Room: 2211 Website: http://www.quia.com/pages/biology2211.html Welcome back to all students. I know this year will be a successful year for you. To insure that you obtain success in Biology II, here are a few things you need to know. All Biology II students will need a three ring binder notebook. This notebook will be graded on a regular basis. I am requesting that students come to class prepared with DELL laptop, class notebook, writing utensils, and paper. In addition, all biology students must pay a science fee of $5.00. Students should follow school rules; as well as class rules. Finally, students should also complete all assignments to their best ability. It is necessary that we work together this year to achieve success. Let us have a great year! Grading System: TEST = 50% LABS AND QUIZZES = 30% DAILY WORK = 20% Projects: Students will be assigned one project every semester. Each project will count as a test grade. Dissections: As per Code of Virginia 22.1 – 200.01, it is our responsibility to inform you that this class may involve the dissection of preserved animal specimens. Alternative assignments will be offered to those students that choose not to participate in dissection. To opt out of dissection, parents MUST provide a note to the classroom teacher outlining reasons for non-participation. Course Outline: First Quarter: Lab Safety Scientific Method Introduction to Humans Intergumentary Skeletal Muscular Second Quarter: Digestive Excretory Respiratory Circulatory Third Quarter: Nervous Endocrine Immune Reproductive & Human Development Fourth Quarter: First Aid Basics Zoology EXPECTATIONS FOR BEHAVIOR: CLASSROOM RULES: 1. Follow directions! 2. Keep hands, feet, and your belongings to yourself! 3. Avoid eating, drinking, teasing, yelling, personal grooming, throwing objects, selling items, and any other inappropriate behavior! 4. Respect yourself, the teacher, and other students at all times! 5. Think before you speak! The “N” word and all other forms of profanity are banned in this classroom! 6. Silence all cell phones! Cell phones should not be seen or heard. 7. MP3 players, iPods, and other music playing devices should not be seen or heard during class time. ATTENDANCE: Students are required to attend class and to be on time. If a student is absent, then that student must present proper documentation to the attendance office to receive an excused absence. This process should be done during the student’s own time, not during class time. Tardiness (late to class) is not allowed. When the bell rings, all students belong inside the classroom. If a student is late more than six minutes after the tardy bell or is tardy three or more times, then a referral is submitted to the administer (for each instances). Make-up Work: Make-up work is the student’s responsibility. Reminders for make-up work will be posted on the “What did I miss board?”. Students missing assignments will have one week from the absence to complete the make-up work. Make-up work can be completed before school (8:00–8:30), or after school (3:45-5:00 only on Tuesdays, and Thursdays). Contact information: Ms. A. Robinson afrobins@henrico.k12.va.us (804) 328-4000
