Welcome to Atom Week This week you will be looking at the the structure, function and organization of atoms, elements and the Periodic Table. You will be working at your own speed through the material. At the end of the week you will have an exam over all of the material. Monday: Lets look at Atomic Structure and Names 1. Complete Inside The Atom 2. Complete 40 Element Symbols Worksheet 3. Click on 40 Element Symbols Play the matching game. How many do you know? 4. Click on All About Atoms Find the answers to the questions on "All About Atoms". a. Explain where and how many quarks are found in each proton. In each neutron. b. How are quarks held together? c. How are electrons used to study the atom? d. Compare the weight of an electron to that of a proton. e. How do you make an isotope? f. Compare the size of a hydrogen atom to a quark. Homework: 1. Complete the following by reading and highlighting the answers. a. What are Atoms b. What are the Parts of Atoms c. Atomic Number d. Atomic Mass Tuesday: Lets look at the Periodic Table 1. Click on Atomic Madness This is a jumbled word puzzle. Write the question number and the correct answer on a sheet of paper. 2. Click on Chem4Kids Elements Go to the Periodic Table. a. Describe the characteristics of the elements found in the same period. b. Describe the characteristics of the elements in the same group. Click on Back. a. Choose an element from the first 18 on the Periodic Table. Make a Bookmark on that element. Homework: 1. Complete the following by reading and highlighting or filing in the answers. a. Atoms in the Periodic Table b. What is the Periodic Table Wednesday/Thursday: Lets look at the Atoms Family 1. Click on Element Confusion Play the matching game. How many of the elements could you match to the clues? 2. Click on Elements, Atoms and Molecules Define each of the following words: elements, atoms, symbols, compounds and mixtures. 3.
