Third Grade News From Mrs. Austin & Mrs. Truesdell May 2009
Taking Care of the Earth Our literature focus is taking care of planet Earth. Many genre, including fiction, non-fiction and poetry, will help us consider ways to become better care takers of our planet. Ask your student about his/her ideas for helping to better care for our homes. Reading for Baseballs Our new reading program has begun. Children are members of a reading team that earns a baseball for each hour read. Teams add their hours together to determine weekly team standings. Reading for Baseball hours are due every Friday. The children created their own team names, posters, and chants. Ask your child about this fun end-of-year reading activity. Facts Quizzes
Children indicate that they are ready for a math fact quiz by bringing a signed parent slip to school. If a child does not pass a quiz one week he needs to indicate readiness for another try with another note from home. This way we can be sure that children are very prepared for each attempt. Children who have not yet passed addition and subtraction quizzes will continue to have that opportunity every week. Multiplication quizzes will continue this month. Planners
Your child's planner is always full of assignments. Please help your child review daily expectations. What's due tomorrow? What needs to be signed and returned to school? When is that test? Do we need sneakers tomorrow? The planner is your window into your child's world. Sincerely, Mrs. Austin & Mrs. Truesdell
A Few Procedures To help keep things running smoothly all year it helps to remember our class procedures. •If you are picking up your child from school, or if someone else is, please send in a signed, dated note with your child’s first and LAST name and GRADE 3 written on the note. •If your child has a permanent dismissal time (ex: he/she gets picked up every Thursday or goes to the Y after school program) and you want your child to take the bus on that day, please send in a note stating the change. •Your child will need a small, healthy snack each day. •Your child will need to bring his/ her Take Home Folder and Planner to school EVERYDAY!
