    What AVID is:

  • - AVID is an acronym that stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination.
  • - AVID is an internationally recognized, national in-school academic support program that seeks to prepare students for college eligibility and success.
  • - AVID is a program for all students, but targets those in the academic middle who have not been served by traditional programs.
  • - AVID helps to "level the playing field" for minority, rural, low-income, and other students without a college-going tradition in their families.
  • - AVID is implemented schoolwide and district-wide.
  • - AVID teachers are trained in AVID methodology which includes weekly tutorials (Collaborative Inquiry Sessions), an emphasis on higher level thinking and reasoning, as well as an emphasis on writing.
  • What AVID ISN'T:

  • - AVID isn't a remedial program.
  • - AVID isn't a dumping ground.
