Welcome to Mrs. Beals's Webpage! This week we are studying - Reading We are using our anthology for reading. We are doing the unit on "Unwrapping Ancient Mysteries". We are working on comprehension, vocabulary, compare and contrast, and noting main ideas and supporting details. Read Aloud - We have begun a new book, "Island of the Blue Dolphins". While we listen we write questions about the story plot, characters and setting. We make predictions and summarize the story. Spelling - Lesson 20 Spelling patterns that have prefixes Grammar -We are beginning personal pronouns and learning to identify and use number, person and case. Writing - We have been working on developing our topics for Sixth Grade Assessment. We are also doing research on earthquakes and volcanoes with an essay and power point presentation. Science - We are focusing on the three types of rock, sedimentary, metamorphic and igneus and how they form. We are looking at the effects of abrasion, weathering and erosion. Math - We are finishing Chapter 5 on Geometry this week and will begin Unit 6 which focuses on division of fractions, positive and negative numbers and the four operations, evaluating numeric expressions, and learning to solve simple equations. February 14 Field Trip to Kimmel Center and hibachi lunch
