Welcome to our Spanish 2B website! Here you will find a daily summary of what we did and what has been assigned. First week of class we were basically just getting to know each other a little bit, and learning names. For Tuesday 12 marzo, your homework is this: follow the link below to the www.conjuguemos.com site. There choose the "Spanish Verbs" link at the left, and then practice your PRESENT TENSE VERBS in a 5 minute timed trial. You should be able to handle #2) PRESENT TENSE: regular verbs without much trouble. If you need help during a conjugation timed trial, click on the purple "Verb charts" tab above the frog's head. If those are easy for you, try #3, which features the "Stem-changing" verbs or "shoe verbs" as we call them sometimes. Record your best score (percentage and raw score) and bring that to class on Tuesday. 12 marzo 2013 -- Today we got back our rough drafts of the family sentences, and we read chapters 1 and 2 of the awfully cheesy story "Mi propio auto." To verify our comprehension, either answer the questions that go with chapters 1 and 2 (found on pp. 12-13) OR write 6 English sentences summarizing what happened in each chapter. We also took the Spanish 2B PRETEST today, just to have a baseline for comparison when we get to late May. 13 marzo -- turn in your assignment from Tuesday, re-read ch. 2 as a class, and read into Chapter 3 together. Photo of the day: la capilla Sextina (Sistine chapel where the new Pope is being chosen). HW -- RE-WRITE your 12 sentences about people in your family (YOU CAN BE ONE OF THEM!), adding detail and taking into account any marks made on your first draft. Remember that we will be turning these into visual family trees that will be posted in class for all to see! 14 marzo - look at news of the nuevo Papa Francisco from Argentina. Share good news, take the pre-test those who missed it earlier, read on in Mi Propio Auto chapter 3 together as a class, students translating to English, all taking notes on new vocab as we go. There will be a T/F quiz at the end of the story, so pay attention! HW = work on locating the visuals to go with the illustrate family tree project. 15 marzo - word of the day = grabar (to record); share good news, read on together in Propio Auto; take surprise quiz over basic reading comprehension stuff. HW - come to class with a great attitude on Monday, ready to begin with a new vocab list! 18 marzo -- share weekend news, get packet for this tri, take notes on p.1 vocab and start to learn it well. HW = do top half of p. 4 19 marzo -- warm up whiteboard translations, review vocab gestures, correct p. 4, begin to tell a class story in Spanish using the p.1 vocab. HW = read chapter 4 of Mi Propio Auto for comprehension, taking a good 30 minutes. Try to read the whole chapter through one time in that time, only looking up words that seem vital or are recurring. Read for a general understanding of what is going on in that chapter. 20 marzo -- fotos of Mexican and Argentine president with the new Pope (Papa Francisco); review vocab gestures, finish the class stories we were telling yesterday; read/discuss what happened in chapter 4 of Mi Propio Auto. HW = read the p.2 story in our packets about the hotel with the mice, and TRANSLATE THE QUESTIONS below it. Don't answer them yet, just translate them. KEEP STUDYING VOCAB... you know we'll have a quiz at the end of the week! 21 marzo -- share good news, review vocabulary, look at the world's smallest book (thanks, Japan!), get printed version of yesterday's class story to re-read and retell, review the two past tenses used in Spanish and see how they were applied in yesterday's story. Read the p.2 story together; take surprise Spanish to English vocab quiz on this week's vocab. HW for Friday: do p. 7 in the packet and practice your vocab for an English to Spanish quiz on Friday. 22 marzo -- share good news, review vocab, go over homework (p.7), take English to Spanish vocab quiz, and do bottom of p.4 together. HW for Monday = complete p. 3. NOTE: we'll have a test next week before the break, mostly over the p.1 vocab, but also over the two past tenses, which are discussed on pp. 10-13 of your packet. We'll work more on that Monday and Tuesday. Hours 3 and 4 -- we got to speak for a while with Rosa Piña Agramonte (from the Dominican Republic) who is in town for the global water conference this weekend. Lots to think about, when you consider what she told us about the condition of the water supply for many in her home country. Groups bringing in those bio-sand water filters are really making a difference! 25 marzo -- recap our weekends in Spanish, go over p.3 carefully, keep reviewing the past tenses in general. HW = do pp. 5 - 6 26 marzo -- practice the 2 past tenses a bit more w/ p. 12-13, review our question words, share good news, begin watching the show "Extra" episode 1. Conjugating verbs 6 pret, 5 imp. Vocab – read and illustrate / translate 6 pts 58 pts total 8 abril 2013 -- welcome back! Share new in Spanish, look at our first test of the trimester and make corrections to it (retakes will be available for one week, for an average of the two scores), look at family vocab on p.2 of the Family packet we got last Wednesday. Tonight's homework = do p. 3 and p.5 in the family packet, and remember that on THURSDAY of this week you need to bring in your completed Family mini-poster (featuring color illustrations/photos of you and at least 5 other people in your family, with 2 awesome Spanish sentences about each person). 9 abril 2013 -- Get new seats, credit for HW, look at sample of well-done family project, correct pp. 3 and 5, finish Extra episode 1, take notes on this week's new vocab on p.14 of the main packet. HW = do p. 15 in the main packet, and keep practicing your family vocab and working on that family project. Need to type letters with accents and things? If using Microsoft WORD, here's one way to do it. To get an accent on a vowel, first depress the CTRL key and the apostrophe key, then release and type the vowel you want, and it should have an accent over it. To get a ñ to show up, you can hold deperss three keys on the left of your keyboard, the CTRL, SHIFT, and the `/~ key above the TAB key, then release and type the "N" and it should work :) 10 abril - share good news, go over p. 15 story together, do 5 translations using family vocab to practice, practice p.14 vocab more with gestures. Practice reflexive verbs some more. For tonight, study up! past tenses (know how to form verbs in preterit and imperfect tenses, know when to use which one in context of a story) -- p.11 in the main packet. reflexive verbs -- how do they work? (p.19), what are some common reflexive verbs? (p.20) -- be able to pick a good verb for a particular sentence, and then know how to conjugate it. For example, if you're tying to use the verb "cepillarse" (to brush) in this sentence: Yo ___ _________ los dientes dos veces cada día. you would take the "se" off the end and put it in front of the verb, changing it to the pronoun that works for "yo" which would be "me." Then, just conjugate the verb with a form that works for "yo" like "cepillo" in the present tense, or "cepillaba" in the past. The sentence would look like: Yo me cepillo los dientse dos veces cada día. Doing that part on the test will be worth a whole bunch of points. The p.14 vocabulary you will need to be able to write in Spanish, spelling it properly. Study up!!! 22 abril : share weekend news, look at photos from the area of the "inundación de 2013" en el río Grand y el río Rogue. You can copy them if you need to; try to do them out of your head and then use the pages in your packet to double-check yourself. Your grammar goal this week should be to have well-learned those preterit irregular verbs. 23 abril -- foto del día, get our test back (in computer as being out of 89 points... retakes are available starting Wednesday of either the whole test or selected sections. If doing a sectional retake, you must bring your original test back to me first so I can use your original score on those sections that you are not retaking).
