Dear Parents,
We had a great 100’s Day. The “100’s Collections” were terrific. We had crazy bands, crayons, pencils, legos, pennies, bolts, lite brite pieces, and lots of candy!! Some 100 bags were filled to the top, and others barely covered the bottom of the bag. It was amazing how 100 could look so different from bag to bag!! The class also counted over 900 BOXTOPS. We will now turn them in for the school contest. Keep turning them in because many classes have 1,400 or more!!
Next week in our religion we will be talking about prayer. We will hear a parable about prayer and talk about the LORD’S PRAYER.
We will have one Bible verse:
Tuesday: Our Father who art in heaven
Hallowed be Thy name… (The Lord’s Prayer)
Math- Next week we will continue to review:
Making lines with a ruler
Making and counting tally marks (5’s)
Counting by 5’s to 50
We will also begin to work on the doubles +1 facts. The idea is to use the doubles facts and then add one more (I illustrate it as taking a step forward.)
If 2+2= 4, then 2+3 = 5 If 6+6=12, then 6+7=13
We will have a math fact test (+2 and -2 facts) on Friday.
Reading- We need additional days to finish FUN WITH FISH in our Trophies book. The children will then get their new Trophies book (#3).
I will also begin to ask each child to read the Trophies Word List #2 to me. I have put a list of words in the Friday Folder. Even though we may be working in Book #3, I still want to ask them to read the words and (maybe) their favorite story from book#2. I may need to ask a few children to stay after school to work with me.
Spelling- Our words for next week do not come from our reading but are additional words. We will have 10 animal words. They are:
pig goat sheep hen cow dog cat fish bird frog
Our test will be Thursday, February 16
