Blogging…
Everyone is doing it!
What
is a "Blog"? For those of us
who did not grow up with the internet, this is a popular question. A Blog is short for "Web Log,"
which is an online journal used in a variety of ways. In my research I have found blogs for every
topic you can imagine.
Blogging
seems have become a popular way for individuals to communicate across the
internet. Blogs allow for knowledge
sharing and reflections, as well as conversations and debates.
Blogs
have a couple drawbacks. They are mostly
created and maintained by individuals and the information is often bias and
inaccurate. Blogs are not monitored by
anyone except the creator. Also, blogs
can be edited or deleted by other “bloggers,” which makes it difficult to
archive.
One
of the most controversial blogging sites is Myspace.com, http://www.myspace.com. This has been in the news recently and is
seen by adults as an unsafe place teenagers can access.
If
used appropriately and responsibly, Blogs can be an excellent resource and
teaching tool.
