BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF COURSE OBJECTIVES FOR THIS SIX WEEK GRADING PERIOD. 1st six weeks the learner will: 1. Compare and contrast the various methods of scientific research 2. Explain how variables are used in scientific method 3. Describe the theories of continental drift and sea floor spreading 4. Explain how the theory of plate tectonics grew from earlier theories 5. Predict how the positions of the continents may change in the future 6. Identify the layers of the Earth 7. Explain how convection currents move tectonic plates 8. Compare and Contrast the three types of tectonic plate boundaries 9. Explain how the epicenter of an earthquake is located 10. Compare and Contrast the motions of P, S, and surface waves 11. Correlate earthquakes with plate tectonics 12. Describe the process that causes the crust to fold 13. Classify faults by type 14. Explain the relationships among fold, faults, and plate tectonics in the mountain building process III.
