This semester class allows students a chance to learn five weeks each of French and Spanish. Games, dialogues, and partner activities are just some of the ways in which students are taught the alphabet, basic greetings, commands, classroom objects, numbers, time, and culture. We will concentrate mostly on communication skills, but other areas such as: writing, listening, and basic recognition of popular words and phrases will be stressed. Upon successful completion of this class, students will be encouraged to further their language study with Introduction to Language II in eighth grade and French I or Spanish I in ninth grade.

Ways to Study: There are many ways to memorize vocabulary and everyone learns differently. A few of you may find that you are able to memorize the words with just paying attention in class and completing the assignments with very little studying. Most of you will need to pay attention in class, do the assignments, and study 5-10 minutes each day. Some of you may need to study more. Remember that everyone is different and if you keep trying, you will succeed!

1. Make up flashcards - Take 3 x 5 cards and cut them in half. (You can also use regular paper) Write the word in the target language on one side and the English word on the back. Practice translating the target language to English first and then English to the target language. Finally, quiz yourself on the spelling as that is the most difficult part.

2. Ask someone to quiz you - Give your partner the flashcards or your study sheet and have them follow the same format as given in #1.

3. Website - Use the website to practice the vocabulary. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and view the activities section. These selected activities cover most of the French and Spanish for the whole semester.

4. Practice Quizzes - I will usually give you a practice quiz before each quiz and I will often post one on this website. Keep practicing it until you are happy with your results!
