Course Description
Professionals have long known that individuals diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder can be some of the most challenging clients to help. Individuals with BPD can be very sensitive to perceived criticism and rejection, and react strongly to others through verbal and at times physical retaliation. Their feelings about others often shift dramatically and can range from idealization to contempt. Self-image can also change rapidly from extremely positive to extremely negative, and many of these individuals also have other mental health concerns like substance abuse and mood disorders as well. This portion of the series will identify the signs and symptoms of this disorder, briefly identify the differences between Axis I and Axis II disorders and discuss the prevalence and common course of BPD.
Objectives:
- To briefly identify the differences between an Axis I and Axis II disorder.( I.E. Between the symptoms that one suffers from compared to who the individual has become developmentally.)
- To identify the signs and symptoms of Borderline Personality Disorder
- To identify the prevalence and course of this disorder
- To identify common Axis I disorders associated with BPD
