Course Description
Professionals have long known that individuals diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder can be some of the most challenging clients to help. Individuals with BPD can be very sensitive to perceived criticism and rejection, and react strongly to others through verbal and at times physical retaliation. Their feelings about others often shift dramatically and can range from idealization to contempt. Self-image can also change rapidly from extremely positive to extremely negative, and many of these individuals also have other mental health concerns like substance abuse and mood disorders as well. This portion of the series will identify the treatment approaches that have been found to help these clients heal.
Objectives:
- Review the particular therapeutic challenges with which these individuals present.
- Discuss the APA guidelines for effective treatment management for individuals suffering from BPD.
- Discuss the treatment approaches which show promise in helping individuals who suffer from BPD as well as their family members.
