7th Grade Language Arts and Reading
taught by Mrs. Braden

My classes are 7th grade reading and language arts (which includes writing, grammar, and spelling.) I post my class assignments on my SchoolNotes.com page every day. This is the third year that each of my classes have had their own webpages. You can get to these class pages from a link on the SchoolNotes.com page (see that link below). The Quia webpages (which include some practice exercises, practice quizzes, games, etc. that can be done at home) addresses are: http://www.quia.com/pages/bradenclassa.html for my first and second period class, http://www.quia.com/pages/bradenclassb.html for my fourth and fifth period class, and http://www.quia.com/pages/bradenclassc.html for my seventh and eighth period class. We take our spelling tests online each week, using a test that I create and put on our webpages. This year I am also including spelling and other practice tests online as often as I am able. Students should study for weekly spelling tests that we take on Thursdays. Students have vocabulary tests approximately once a week. Test days for those vary.
** I have created a creative writing webpage for our class to publish some of our writing at: http://www.geocities.com/sherry_braden/Braden_creativewriting.html . I will only put the students’ work on our webpage if they want it to be there, and I will only give their first names and first initial of last names (in order to keep this safe). Most importantly, I will not do any of this without parent permission.
** I will be creating a student directory of all of my students from all three of my language arts and reading classes, which I will make copies of and distribute to all of the students in all three classes. In this directory will be the students’ names and some information about them that they volunteer to share (such as favorite sport or music). We can include students’ email addresses, instant message names (or screennames), and/or phone numbers. They (and you) can decide to include some or all of that information. I will only do this with parent approval. I am looking forward to this year, and all the exciting things we can do when we work diligently.

During this last quarter of the year we are focusing more on narrative writing and persuasive writing.  We will be reviewing some more grammar as well.

We are finishing up our disaster unit by focusing a longer time on the Titanic.  We are reading a historical fiction novel about the Titanic entitled SOS Titanic, by Eve Bunting.

Coming up after Titanic, we will finish out the year by reading and studying poetry and drama.  Students will also be writing some poetry as well.
