What's New with Miss Burchett's First Graders? Wow, it will soon be here - the 100th day of school! All of our daily calendar activities have helped us understand about place value (tens and ones) and about counting by ones, twos, fives, and tens. All of these understandings are part of our Oklahoma PASS learning objectives. We are celebrating the 100th day of school on Monday, January 27, with activities while rotating through all of the first grade classrooms. We will play bingo, make cereal necklaces, complete 100-square grids, complete 100-piece puzzles, and eat trail mix made with the cereal, marshmallows, raisins, and M&M's that parents have shared with us. We have made our 100th day masks with sequins and feathers. They look like shiny bird masks! We have also read two books about the 100th day of school- 100 Days of School by Trudy Harris and 100th Day Worries by Margery Cuyler. These books can be checked out from the Metropolitan Library System. Thanks to everyone who brought things for our celebration -we appreciate your generosity. Please keep encouraging your child to read at home and to list books read on the index cards. Some of our classmates have read 200 books so far this year. Mrs. Bivens and Mr. McElhaney say,"Read, read, read!"
