Computer Applications
NOTE: ALL ITEMS IN RED ARE DUE DATES FOR THOSE ACTIVITIES. THE ACTIVITY IS DUE AT THE END OF THE PERIOD UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTED BY THE TEACHER ON THE PAGE OR VERBALLY IN CLASS. IF THE ITEM WAS HOMEWORK, THEN IT IS DUE AT THE START OF THE PERIOD.
PowerPoint Major Assignment
Due Date for the PowerPoint Project is Friday, September 19, 2003.
Each student will produce a slide show of at least 20 slides over one of the following 3 topics:
1. Terrorism
2. Current US Activities in Iraq
3. The Israeli vs. Palestinian struggle.
Requirements: The student will research the chosen topic on the internet and include at least 1 quote from a world leader. This means that at least one quote has to be from someone currently in power.
Each slide will have one photograph, saved from the internet, that uses a maximum of 25% of the slide.
The first slide will be a title slide introducing the topic and have the student name on it. The very last slide will not have a graphic. It will contain bibliographical information and will not have any graphics. Keep track of where you get your graphics and information. Students will be required to include that on the bibliography.
Each item on each slide will be animated. Students will not be allowed to use animation sound effects though. The bibliographical slide will not have any animations.
Students must use slide transitions between each slide.
Students may only use two different backgrounds.
Students may use only 3 different fonts.
Microsoft Publisher Assignment
You will start this when you finish your PowerPoint Presentation or on Tuesday, September 23. I will demonstrate the Publisher Software on Tuesday the 23nd and Thursday the 25th.
Due Date,October 9, 2003.
Each student will produce a 4 page typed report over one of the following topics.
1. Medical Technology
2. Computer Technology
You can take one of the following techniques in the composition of your report:
A. Write about the development of the technology being reported on. This means how did the technology get to where it is today from the time that it was created.
B. Write about new and emerging products as they pertain to either Medical or Computer Technology. This is the futuristic stuff that is not available to the average consumer. These are the items that you hear about that sound too good to be true.
Requirements:
4 pages total.
The first page is to be a cover page with the following information:
1. Your name
2. Class Period
3. Topic Title
4. One picture that takes no more than 75% of the page.
The remaining three pages will contain the following:
No more than two pictures per page but you may not have more than 1/3 of the page taken up by pictures.
The font is to be either Times New Roman, or CG Times.
The body of the text may be no larger than 14 points in size. Titles may be up to 18 point text.
The margins will be set to 1 inch all around. That is the default and should not be changed.
Research: You will be researching your topic on the internet. Keep track of where you get your information and graphics. You will report these sources on a separate type written page that is not part of your 4 pages.
Brochure Assignment
When you get done with the first Publisher Assignment, start working on a three fold brochure. This will be for some vacation desitination. There are no requirements except for the layout.
Ask a student working on this project how to sketch out your layout on paper.
To set up the brochure on Publisher, follow the steps below.
1. Click on the File Menu.
a. Click Page Setup
b. Click Landscape.
c. Click OK until all the menu's disappear.
2. Click on the Arrange Menu.
a. Click on Layout guides.
b. Change all 4 margins to .25, and set Columns to 3.
b. Click OK until all the menu's disappear.
3. Click the Insert Menu.
a. Insert 1 page
b. Click OK
This project will be due Monday, October 13.
Architectural Unit
Begin this project by looking at the requirements. There is a link at the bottom of this page to show you the requirements.
After looking at the requirements, go to www.dreamhomesource.com and search the floor plans out there to find homes that meet those requirements. Sketch rooms and houses on paper that you like.(you can find paper on the overhead projector behind my seat.) You will be gathering ideas here. You will be creating your own floor plan design using these sketches.

You will be working on a WEB Page project next. If you will click on the link at the bottom of the page, you will see the requirements for this assignment. Before you begin, you must write up a paragraph telling me what you want to do and what will be included.
