Fourth Grade News Mrs. Lee and Mrs. Hursh December 14, 2009 Special Information -12/14 Market Day Pick up -12/16 Assembly on Friendship/ Bullying -12/18 Holiday Parties -12/21- 1/1 (school resumes on 1/4/10) **This will be the last newsletter until January 4th. We hope you all have a safe, relaxing, and fun-filled Winter Break! **Please be sure to visit our class website to practice spelling, science and math facts this week. To access it go to: http://www.southwestschools.org, click on Crosby Elementary, click on Teacher Webs (on the left side of page), select Mrs. Hursh or Mrs. Lee. The site is the same for both. Language Arts Reading- We will begin the week learning about idioms, or phrases that mean something different than what they sound. For example, “It is raining cats and dogs” really means that it is raining very hard. On Wednesday through Friday we will finish up all book clubs, poster projects, and play some vocabulary review games to help us remember our new vocabulary words. I am very proud of student’s accomplishments with this month’s book club. The fourth graders worked hard, got along well, and did their homework assignments faithfully. Great Work! We will do more book clubs in the new year. Writing/Grammar- This week we will practice writing dialogue with multiple speakers, being sure to start a new paragraph for each new speaker. For practice, we will write a conversation between Santa and his elves. Spelling- Due to a busy week with holiday activities, we will not have a spelling list. Math This week we will continue to multiply with two digits and multiplying money with two digits. Students are staying in at recess to practice facts. Many of them still don’t know them and math homework is becoming extremely difficult. They need to be practicing them at home! Social Studies This week we will be finishing up the “Liberty Kids” video of the Boston Tea Party. We will also be looking at how different cultures in Ohio celebrate the holidays in December. Science We will complete several experiments this week demonstrating chemical changes. We know a chemical change has occurred because; a new substance is made, a gas could be given off, there was a change in color or temperature, and the change is NOT reversible.
