Assignment Log for the Week of November 9, 2009 Term 1 closed last Friday, November 6. Report cards will be mailed home on Friday. Veteran's Day - No school on November 11. Monday 11/9 ENGLISH Class: Introduction to the small group project "Connecting To Kill a Mockingbird to Events in U.S. History." Students will be assigned to a small group and one of the project options will be selected by the group to begin researching. A copy of the list of the options is available in a URL link below. H.W.: Print out the required reading for your group's case option. Read and highlight key parts of the article. I will teach you how to take proper notes tomorrow. HISTORY Class: We will explore the sacrifices made by U.S. veterans in honor of the upcoming Veterans' Day. Our class will watch parts of the documentary "We Stand Alone Together: The Men of Easy Company" in order to gain a perspective of veterans from WWII. H.W.: Find out what events are being planned for Veterans' Day in Norwell and surrounding towns. Tuesday 11/10 ENGLISH Class: Lesson on notetaking for the project. Work in groups on finishing up the notetaking on your required reading for your case option. Decide on how your group plans to divide up the readings, etc. listed in your option choices. H.W.: Print out the necessary documents which you have been assigned within your group. You do not have to read them, but you must bring the print-outs to school on Thursday. HISTORY Class: View segments of the award winning video "Letters to America from Vietnam." H.W.: (The following assignment has been moved to a class assignment on Thursday.)Type a 200 - 300 word letter of appreciation to a veteran. It may be a general salutation such as "To our Vietnam veterans" or you may write to a specific veteran either living or deceased who served in any conflict or war. Use the information from our class videos to help you construct a respectful tone to your letter. Wednesday 11/11 Veterans' Day - NO SCHOOL ENGLISH Class: No school. Try to go out to a Veterans' Day event if possible to show your gratitude to those who so bravely served our nation. H.W.: Be sure you have the print-outs for your part of the group project ready for class tomorrow.. HISTORY Class: Same comment as above. H.W.: none Thursday 11/12 After school help today ENGLISH Class: Work with your group members in the computer lab. I will sit in with groups to advise and answer questions about your topic and readings. H.W.: Continue taking notes on your readings, listen to related audios, etc. HISTORY Class: Write draft of letter to a veteran in class. H.W.: Complete final copy and decorate appropriately. Friday 11/13 ENGLISH Class: Continue to work on group project in the computer lab. H.W.: Finish the reading, highlighting, and taking notes on your group's options. HISTORY Class: Go over Chp 11 section 1 H.W.: None
