UBC LLED 469: Learning Centers Activity
Learning Outcomes:
1.  Students will become familiar with Canadian symbols.
2.  Students will practice their reading, writing and comprehension skills in English.  

Tasks: 
1.  View a powerpoint presentation on Canadian symbols.  (7 minutes) 

2.  Answer comprehension questions on what they have read.  (7 minutes)

3.  Return to their desks and skim through books on Canada.  Choose an image that they feel represents Canada, and complete a Canadian symbol hand-out.  Hand-in the hand-out.  (15 minutes)

4.  Some students may finish early, and they may go online and play Hangman:  Canadian Symbol Spelling Challenges (practices spelling symbols and new vocabulary). 


Evaluation:
1) Partipation in the learning activity is the basis for evaluation since this activity focusses on students practicing their English.  The knowledge of Canadian symbols will be built on in followings lessons and be evaluated at that time.

Participation will be evaluated in 2 ways:
1)  The teacher or teacher-librarian will observe that the student is going through the steps in the activity.
2)  The student hands in the completed hand-out.
