Exceptions are made in the event of illness or emergency. School should be notified as soon as possible and a note from a parent, guardian, or physician should be sent to school on the day of return. Other circumstances may be discussed and approved by the principal.
** It is still Winter:
STUDENTS SHOULD DRESS ACCORDING TO THE WEATHER EACH DAY--

** I recommend you send your child every day in "gym shoes" Even on days we do not have gym, we go to a playground that is made of round metal tubing. Proper footwear will keep little feet from slipping off and causing bruises and tears.
READ, READ, READ! Every Day, Every Way!
Books, Magazines, Newspapers, TV captions, Comics, Recipes, Cereal Boxes, Instructions, Computers, Websites, Video Games, Candy Wrappers, Grocery List, Signs, Stores, Billboards, Menus, Fortune Cookies... Did I leave anything out?? Read to your child. Read with your child. Let your child read to you! Showing kids how YOU use reading every day is the best example, and one they will always remember!
See How Much We Learn!
The Weekly Buzz tells about special happenings, projects, etc.
Language Arts:
We are reading every day. We are learning to be great readers and writers! We use our reading books for many thing, including vocabulary, word study and phonics activities. We use stories of various levels of difficulty as a launch pad for dissecting words in order to study phonemes, onsets, rimes, and more. We are working on becoming GREAT writers, too! Be sure to work on those sight words in your child's B.E.E. Book. WHEW!
A big focus is Blends, r controlled vowels, and fluency. Word families are always importand, it helps with spelling patterns and rhyming skills. Think of as many word in a word-family as possible- listen to that last part in order to identify the rhyme and the spelling pattern.
** A good activity is to recite a simple poem and ask your child which words rhyme!
(example:cat, hat, bat/pig, wig, dig/ran, fan, tan, etc.)
Be sure to read the sight word lists (as much as you can) They are located in your child's B.E.E. Book
PRACTICE WRITING PROPER SENTENCES: Begin with a capital letter. Use a capital letters for names, Months, Days, Holidays, and proper names. This is such an important skill.
Math:
We are still reviewing and increasing our addition/subtraction skills. We are also working on graphing and comparisons. Place value is on the way (in case you want to get a jump start)
Social Studies:
We are working hard to learn about being good citizens. There is a lot of responsibility in that. From being nice to our friends and using good manners, to exercising our right to vote. Good Citizenship is a BIG DEAL!! Presidents Day, Black History, and American historical figures are our current interests! George Washington, Abe Lincoln, G.W. Carver, etc.
Science: Seasons, weather, observations descriptions, using graphs, etc.
B.E.E. BOOKS
The Bee Book is our "Lifeline To Learning!" Keep up with it and take special care of it so it will last all year. Remember to check the Bee Book every single day. The behavior sheet is in there and must be initialed every day. Also, Your child's homework is there. We are always moving toward better learning and toward the next step-- 2nd grade
WE CAN DO IT!
Things To Remember
Homework is due each MONDAY. Remember to initial your child's behavior and reading homework each evening.
Coming Up...
An entire year of Learning.... Fasten your seat belts, everyone, and HANG ON!
