The Religion Department is staffed by teachers committed to the mission of Fr. Louis Querbes, founder of the Clerics of St. Viator. Fr. Querbes started the Viatorians to proclaim the Gospel message and teach young people Catholic values. It is our honor, as well as our duty, to help young people deepen and understand their faith. Religion classes: 1. Help young people integrate God's Word into their lives by teaching Catholic interpretation of Scripture. 2. Prepare young people to participate more fully in Catholic sacramental life. 3. Train young people in skills for prayer and worship. 4. Challenge young people to assume leadership in our church now. 5. Emphasize the value of each human life and celebrate diversity. 6. Urge each student to accept his or her responsibility to treat all people in a Christ-like manner. 7. Give young people the tools to use Catholic teachings as their guide when making ethical choices. Additional Information 1. The Religion Department does not coordinate the student service program. For more information on that program, contact Betsy Fons in Campus Ministry, ext. 268. 2. Members of the Religion Department do not give extra credit assignments to individual students, although each religion teacher might offer all students the opportunity to do bonus assignments. 3. Teachers expect students to make up tests or quizzes during a free period, or before or after school, usually in the third floor testing center. 5. Seniors may be exempt from the second semester final exam if they have a cumulative average for that semester of 90% or higher.
