COURSE DESCRIPTION
In Language Arts, we will stretch our brains as we explore reading comprehension and literature analysis with studies of short stories & novels from multiple genres of literature and our own compositions. We will spice up our writing with a study of the 6 traits of writing, vocabulary, root words, parts of speech, sentence components, grammar usage, & effective punctuation. Students will be expected to maintain a notebook (see supply list), which they will use to collect vocabulary lists, study guides, and writing samples.
CLASS SUPPLIES
Students will earn points by arriving to class prepared each day. This includes being in class with pencils, paper, coloring pencils, ink pen, timetracker, completed homework assignments, and a positive attitude. It is each student's responsibility to restock their consumable supplies throughout the year. They may store surplus in our classroom or in their locker.
CLASS EXPECTATIONS
- Students are expected to treat themselves and others with respect and dignity. Disturbing another student's right to learn is not an option.
- Students are expected to make learning a priority by giving their best effort towards everything they do.
- Students are expected to take responsibility for their own assignments, behavior choices, and attitude.
- Students are expected to come to class with the necessary supplies.
- Students are expected to turn assignments in on time. An assignment turned in late will result in the deduction of 5 points from the assignment's grade, unless an arrangement has been previously made with Mrs. Gill. Taking a grade of zero on an assignment is not an option; all assignments must be completed.
