Expectations of each student:
In order to meet the objectives of this class as stated in the departmental syllabus, students are required to take responsibility for their own learning by:
1.) studying outside of class which includes daily assignment preparation, homework, workbook, etc. Even when there is no assigned work, the student should continue to interact with the language by going over unassigned grammar, textbook, or workbook exercises, or even by visiting the computer lab to use the Internet. By reading the syllabus, the student should be aware that there may be several assignments due around the same time and must plan appropriately without the instructor’s urging,
2.) regularly attending class with a positive attitude toward one’s peers, the instructor and the course subject, by
3.) fully participating in all class activities, be they in or out of class, by
4.) checking the class web page in order to be informed of class assignments and changes and read all e-mails sent by the instructor, and finally by:
5.) being aware of your grade in the course (which includes your absences). Students are expected to keep a record of all grades and absences so that they know where they stand in the course at all times. The instructor is not responsible for grade calculations until the end of the semester.

*Class discussion and instruction will be entirely in the target language. Students are expected to use Spanish at all times. Any use of English will lead to a deduction of points.

Participation: One of the most important means of attaining the goals of this course is being prepared for and participating in class activities. Therefore, your use of Spanish, your willingness to participate, your cooperation in group and pair work in and out of class, and finally your respect and attitude towards the class and your peers will be evaluated on a daily basis (see grading criteria). Any use of English without prior permission will result in an automatic 0 for the day. If you are absent, these points may NOT be made-up, even with an excuse. There are no exceptions to this rule. Students are responsible for bringing all materials needed for the course at all times. Students who do not have them are considered unprepared for class and will receive a 0 for the day. Students are also expected to attend at least one event that focuses on Hispanic Culture. The event must be approved by the instructor beforehand and a one page essay on the cultural value of the event written in Spanish will be turned in to receive any credit.

Homework will NOT be accepted the day returned even with an excuse. NO late assignments will be accepted. (Late is defined as once the assignment has been collected, anything after that is considered late and will not be accepted.)
