Mrs. Patty Denton
Welcome to Computer Programming! This is a dual enrollment class in which students will receive 3 college credits!
HIGHLIGHTS
We will begin the year with an exploration of the History of computers! Did you know that the first "modern" computer was so large that it had its own building the size of a football field? It couldn't even do a 100th of the things a pc can do today!
We will explore the binary number system (0000 0010 = 2)
We will try our programming skills in BASIC programming
We will study gaming and create games that you can dazzle your friends with!
We will study robotics and build working robots!
PROGRAMMING WITH GAMING AND ROBOTICS
This class is a computer programming class that begins teaching students the history of computers, the binary number system, and how to write programs using BASIC. The students are taught how to take a task and break it down into logical steps to solve the problem. They use several different methods of programming logic throughout the course.
In this course, we will be using the Alice program to explore how to make objects move animatedly. We will be using a gaming program to write and create animated games for use by everyone. We will also explore the world of robotics using the Lego Robotics. We will build robots and program them to complete tasks, follow a line using the light sensor to guide the robot, program it to "talk", etc.
Most work is completed in class due to the specific compilers and programs used. Periodically students will have a take-home assignment.
