Welcome
Are you tired of hearing about RAM, DVD's, CD's, email, downloads, listserves, chatrooms and not know what they are talking about? Does some one else help you get on-line or do you push an icon to get on-line but don't know what is happening? This class will start at the very beginning and build up so that you, too, can understand and know the hows and whys of using a computer.
Week 1
Take the Quiz on computer hardware terms. We will explore the basic components of the Macintosh computer, what they do and where they are located. You will be asked to identify various parts of the computer and their function.
Week 2
We will take an in-depth look at the Macintosh operating system (OS) that makes your computer run. You will be asked to locate various components, what they do and how to change their settings.
Week 3
We will look at basic computer programs/applications that run on your computer. These will be in the form of word processors, spreadsheets, and databases. You will be asked to create a document in each of the above applications.
Week 4
We will explore creating and using graphics. We will learn how to insert them into documents. You will be asked to create a flyer using text and graphics.
Week 5
We will explore the internet and email. What is the internet? What is email? How do you get on? What do you do once you are on? You will be asked to set up an account and
send an email.
