Dear Parents and Students,

As we begin the last quarter of Spanish. I want to review the materials needed for class and to offer suggestions for continued success and for improvement in the progression of language study. It is very important that students have good and consistent study habits as well as organizing materials to reach, to maintain or to go beyond the required numeric average of “80” for Spanish I students to go on to the next level of language study next year.

Materials needed for class each day:

1. Textbook
2. Agenda
3. A 2-3 inch binder with 5 dividers: homework, vocabulary, grammar, verbs, culture/oral, quizzes and tests, which is used for Spanish class only
4. #2 pencils, index cards, and 1 expo-marker

Students are expected to have these materials in class each day. Leaving homework at home or in the locker will result in zero. Late homework assignments, unless previously approved, will not be accepted.

Suggestions for success!

1. Do assigned homework each night –at home! Read homework assignments orally and check knowledge of comprehension of vocabulary and verbs. If you can’t read the sentences which you just wrote, then you need to study more. Remember to write down homework assignments before leaving class.
2. Work with “study buddy” at least three times a week for oral practice and to further the comprehension of material presented in class.
3. Review vocabulary and verbs daily, using notes and flash cards. Learn the spelling and meanings to be more successful on quizzes and tests.
4. Participate in class! Language is learned by listening, speaking and lots of oral repetition
5. Ask questions for clarification.

Remember that after school help is available on Tuesdays. However, this time is meant to help students who do their assignments and are still having problems with concepts presented. Students are expected to put forth the effort and to participate in class to help their further understanding. Students need to let me know a week in advance to stay after school so that I can prepare for those students.

Please, please, please – NO GUM!!  Many students have been issued lunch detentions for this, and most of these students are habitual offenders!

Please sign below acknowledging that you have read this information, and don’t hesitate to contact me if you have questions or concerns. Thank you, and I look forward to a wonderful, second semester!

¡Muchas gracias, y que tengas un gran día!
