Mrs. Lynn Campbell and I welcome students and parents to Marion Middle School! As Counselors, our primary roles are to assist students with personal and social problems, academic concerns, and career development during their middle school years. We meet with students individually, in small groups, and in classrooms. We also welcome contacts with parents. Parents are encouraged to call or email us with your concerns, or contact one of us for an appointment. STUDENTS NEW TO THE MARION MIDDLE SCHOOL ZONE: Parents should make an appointment to meet with a counselor to register your child. Please bring copies of the student's immunization records, birth certificate, social security card, and contact information for the previous school. 8TH GRADERS' SCHEDULING FOR HIGH SCHOOL May 31, 2008, is the last date to request class changes for the MSHS grade 9 schedule. Changes should be submitted to the Marion Middle School Guidance Office as soon as possible. Students who are interested in classes offered for high school students at the Smyth Career and Technology Center may find useful information under Programs on the Center's webpage: http://www.scsb.org/sctc/ RECENT ACTIVITIES: CAREER ACTIVITY FOR 8th GRADERS - December 11 - 14, 2007: 8th grade students were introduced to Virginia's online CAREER PLANNING SYSTEM and the VIRGINIA CAREER VIEW website. They established a free KUDER CAREER PORTFOLIO account which enables them to complete the Kuder Career Search with Person Match, the Kuder Skills Assessment, and Super's Work Values Inventory. The students can access the results of their career assessments and investigate these options in the Career Planning System: Plan for the Future, Explore Careers, Choose a Major, Select a College, Find Financial Aid, and Get a Job. The Kuder Career Portfolio system will remain available to the students throughout high school, college, and beyond! Students are encouraged to discuss the Kuder inventory results and the other career and college information with their parents. Parents, it is not too early to discuss educational and career planning with your child. Scheduling for high school will likely begin in February, 2008. CAREER ACTIVITIES FOR 6th AND 7th GRADERS: Throughout the school year the MMS Counselors will conduct online career activities using VIRGINIA CAREER VIEW with 6th and 7th grade students during Exploratory Computer classes. During the spring semester 7th graders will establish and begin to use KUDER CAREER PORTFOLIO accounts using Virginia's online CAREER PLANNING SYSTEM.
