CPSE STUDY SCHEDULE AND EXPECTED PROGRESS TO OPTIMIZE CPSE PERFORMANCE
On average, preparing for the CPSE should take 4 - 8 weeks, putting in about 15 hours a week. First time scores on tests (at or exceeding the recommended cutoffs below) are highly predictive of passing.
What follows is the recommended sequence of steps for studying and taking the CPSE tests.
1) CPSE PRETEST -- Study Mode
Target score of at least 35+/50 or 70% overall
2) READ AND REVIEW the Study Materials for the California Psychology Supplemental Examination (CPSE) – Main Handout
We recommend that you read the main handout in its entirety at least twice
If possible, space your reading, so that you study for one to two hours each day
3) CPSE WORKSHOP QUESTIONS – Workshop Mode (Part 1 - Part 10)
Target score of at least 95+/150
Workshop Homestudy participants should complete the questions in Workshop Mode while following along with the audio program and PowerPoint Handout
4) REVIEW to MASTERY the Workshop PowerPoint Handout
5) CPSE TEST A -- Study Mode
Target score of at least 75 - 80/100
6) CPSE PRETEST -- Retake Mode
Target missing fewer than half as many items as in Study Mode
7) CPSE WORKSHOP QUESTIONS -- Retake Mode
Target missing fewer than half as many items as in Workshop Mode
8) CPSE TEST A -- Retake Mode
Target missing fewer than half as many items as in Study Mode
9) CPSE LEGAL & ETHICAL TEST -- Study Mode
Target score of at least 75 - 80/100
10) CPSE TEST B -- Study Mode
Target score of at least 70 - 75+/100 [This test is very challenging]
11) CPSE LEGAL & ETHICAL TEST -- Retake Mode
Target missing fewer than half as many items as in Study Mode
12) CPSE PRETEST -- Test Mode
Target score of at least 48/50 or 96%
13) CPSE TEST B -- Retake Mode
Target missing fewer than half as many items as in Study Mode
14) CPSE WORKSHOP QUESTIONS -- Test Mode
Target score of at least 145/150 or 97%
15) CPSE TEST A -- Test Mode
Target score of at least 95/100
16) CPSE LEGAL & ETHICAL TEST -- Test Mode
