CRITICAL LENS HELP
In case you cannot remember what is needed in a Critical Lens essay, here is the format:

Thesis Paragraph/Paragraph #1
1. Restate the lens
2. Explain what the quote means
3. State whether the statement is true or false
4. State which works (and their authors) will be used to prove whether the statement is true or false (see #3)

-Do not use I.  State everything as a fact.
-Do not site specific examples in Paragraph #1.  If you need to use any examples to explain the meaning of the lens, make sure they are general.


Paragraph #2
1. State which work will be used first to prove the lens to be true or false.
2. State which literary element present in the first work will help prove whether the lens is true or false.

-Do not use I.  State everything as fact.
-Use just one literary element.
-This paragraph needs to be at least 5 sentences long.
-You may use one example from the work only if you can provide enough evidence to make the paragraph at least 5 sentences long.
-Do not provide more than 2 examples.


Paragraph #3
1. State which work will be used second to prove the lens to be true or false.
2. State which literary element present in the second work will help prove whether the lens is true or false.

-Do not use I.  State everything as fact.
-Use just one literary element.
-This paragraph needs to be at least 5 sentences long.
-You may use one example from the work only if you can provide enough evidence to make the paragraph at least 5 sentences long.
-Do not provide more than 2 examples.


Summary/Paragraph #4
1. Restate the lens.
2. State which works, and their authors,were used to prove the lens to be true or false.
3. State which literary element in those works were used to prove the lens to be true or false.

-Do not use I.  State everything as fact.
-This paragraph only needs to be 2-3 sentences long.
