
Students will study British literature with attention to many classic works. They will use organizational skills, audience awareness, and appropriate vocabulary and grammar to plan and deliver an effective oral presentation. Writing will include producing technical, expository, and analytical papers. Each student will also produce a well-documented major research paper. Emphasis in grammar will focus on developing a sophisticated style of writing and speaking. Attention will be given to effective sentence combination, parallel structure, and usage problems.

CLASS EXPECTATIONS:
1. All work will be submitted in blue or black ink or printed in size twelve font, unless otherwise indicated.
2. All essays will be composed in correct MLA style, unless otherwise indicated. Points will be deducted if procedure is not followed.
3. All homework is to be turned in on the day assigned. If a student is absent, homework is to be turned in on the day the student returns to class by placing it in the basket.
4. If a test or project that has been previously assigned is due the day an absent student returns to class, the student is expected to submit the project and/or take the test with the rest of the class. Exceptions may be made for extenuating circumstances and lengthy illnesses.
5. If an essay or project is due, and the student is absent from English class but present for another class during the day, the student is expected to turn in the project and/or essay on the assigned day by placing it in the basket on the table.
6. If a student is absent from a multiple-choice or open-book test, the makeup test may not be multiple choice or open book. The test will cover the same subject matter.
7. Failure to follow the above rules will result in substantial reduction of grade.
8. If the student feels that an error has been made in grading any test or assignment, the student should circle the question, write a brief summary of the perceived problem, and return the paper.
9. Plagiarizing is a serious violation; a failing grade will be given for any plagiarized assignment.
10. Good manners, consideration for others, and a positive attitude are expected of all.
