WELCOME TO THE MODERN MEDIA WEB SPACE
CURRENT PROJECT
Scavenger Hunt
Monday 19th March (Today) til now
We've been putting together a SCAVENGER HUNT for (new) users of the library. Hopefully the new flexis will be able to use it at the beginning of next year to help them explore the library in a fun way.
We have been putting together questions, sounds easy enough but we had to think about spelling and grammar, then about whether the questions could all be answered all of the time (some were based on a particular book which might be lent out at the time) and so on. So we were busy editing and enhancing the questions!
Book Marks Task
Those of you that were designing book marks might want to try out the top link below "Cool Text" and experiment so that the text fits your bookmark. If any of you know of any similar tools on the web, let me know and we will do a comparison later in May. You will maybe notice that I use these to accentuate parts of this page too, it is a useful tool for presenting information. It is free and you don't need to register - to save paper don't print out each 'text logo' but copy (Strg + C) and Paste ( Strg + P) into a word document. That will make it easier for you to compare the size of the fonts etc
PREVIOUS PROJECTS (start here)
Monday 20th-27th March.
Your window colours now dry and looking great!!!! Some of you have asked if you can take them home, well you would have been able to BUT the cleaners zapped them by mistake in a cleaning flurry - SORRY!!!
On Monday, some of us are going to have a 'dusting initiative', so I'll have plenty of dusters and cloths with me, the plan is for you guys to help with the shelves in the library and I am going to get the desk area looking smart again. This was an initiative from some of the older girls, so please don't see this as slave labour, nobody has to dust, but we will all enjoy being in the library EVEN more once we have it all sparkly again. :-)
07.02.2012.
So my budding quizmasters, below in the quizzes you'll find the dino quiz YOU created, my favourite question is the one with the graphic, check it out!
REMINDER - I still need registration forms from most of you, before I have those we can't move onto web based projects.
NEW STARTING TIME From next week I will be starting the Modern Media AG at the start of the 4th grader lunchbreak, so please come down to the library before your lunch so that you can have your say in our "Get the most of your Modern Media AG" Meeting. Find out what I have in store and why we are still doing stuff with traditional media and tell me what you would be interested in doing too, bring a list of ideas and let's make a plan together.
Once you know what you need to do you can go off and get lunch and come back later to do the staff, you don't need to starve and it will mean that there will be no queuing for materials
28,01.2012. Hope you are all enjoying the winter holidays. I look forward to receiving your superheroe(ess) stories - remember to add your full name. After the holidays we'll be moving on to dinosaurs. Please remember to bring your registration slips so that we can start exploring the web :-)

In winter all of the people are busy making or buying presents for their family
In winter all the kids are opening their advent calendars and are playing out in the snow, when they get cold inside there is hot chocolate.
On Christmas Eve everybody is busy opening presents

Zieht euch warm an, zeiht Mutze, Handschuh, Schal an
Es ist dunkel in der Früh und niemals hell in Winterzeit
Es gibt Kekse, Nüsse und Leckereien.
Der Kamin macht mächtig Hitze
damit Man auch ja nicht Zittert.

Once in a little town lived a little girl, she was very poor.
When Christmas was arriving, she wrote her wishes in the snow.
Her wish was a bit more money on Christmas morning.
She opened her presents and found a letter, she opened it.
It said tomorrow at midnight, I will come to your house and give you two money bags. The girl was so happy.
The next morning the girl decided to tell her parents.
They were so happy so at midnight this man came, he gave them the money bags and said to do something nice with my money.
The girl said yes.

11.2011. WELCOME! This is going to be our 'online space'.
We meet on Mondays in the primary school library at Nelson Mandela, it is an English language club to introduce young children to different types of media, including online learning and presentation. The idea is to develop a fascination for different types of media as a constructive learning tool, the two key areas of focus will be collaborative learning and netiquette and an awareness of online security and personal safety in a familiar and fun environment.
This is a drop in club meaning that the students can work on the Modern Media projects during the course of the week at their own pace, either individually or with others in a group. This accommodates different break & lunch times. Corinne is only there on Mondays but the task runs all week.
Many of you will know me as 'The Usborne Lady' but not all of the projects will be based on Usborne books, we will be looking at web linked books from Usborne and other publishers but we will also be working on WIKIs, BLOGS, discussion threads, wordles, interactive quizzes and much more.
Online activities will start after the Christmas break, I am still getting to know the students, test firewalls, set up passwords etc, but in the meantime we are working on more conventional modern media tasks. The first two tasks were
* The Christmas Card Exchange
* Winter Writing/Poetry Project
Want to find out more?
If parents or teachers want to find out more, you are welcome to come into the Modern Media AG, we meet in the primary school library between 9 and 14.00 on Mondays.
