The American Civil War (The War Between the States) Project

Each student is required to do two projects. Students may work together
as long as everyone helps prepare and present the project. If you want to
use the Internet to find information or pictures, go to this web page at

*Write a two page report, create a video, or act out a 5 minute skit on
any of the following people: Abraham Lincoln, Jefferson Davis, Ulysses S. Grant, Robert E. Lee, William T. Sherman, Stonewall Jackson, George B. McClellan, Frederick Douglass, Clara Barton, Sally Tompkins, Belle Boyd, Harriet Tubman

*Design a game for students to play in which they learn about the events
and people of the American Civil War.
*Make a flow chart showing the causes and effects of the American
Civil War.

*Write a song or poem that has words talking either about an important
event or person.
*Create a timeline that shows the events from Fort Sumter to Appommattox Court House.

*Make a map showing the major battles and who won them
*Draw a picture of the Northern and Confederate soliders with the flags that represented their side.
*Have a debate about the pros and cons of the Civil War.
*Produce a play that would show the events of the American Civil War.
*Read a book about the American Civil War and write a one page summary of
the book and what you learned about the War.
*Pretend you were one of the soldiers, write a diary of your
experiences describing the food, music, and life as a solider.
*Pretend you were a Virginian back during the Civil war, write your reasons for joining the Southern or the Northern army.
*Be a news reporter and talk to one of the important generals or spies during the Civil War.

*Create a comic of the American Civil War.

*Do a PowerPoint presentation that shows an event or person of the
American Civil War.

*Give an oral presentation of the use and importance of music during the Civil War (You may play a Civil War song if you get my permission ahead of time.
