D.A.R.E. GRADUATION 2001


This past fall, our class studied the systems of the body. At the end of the unit, in groups, students created skits. ÊIn the skit they were to include a slogan, information about their system, how it works, what parts are involved, and how drugs hurt their respective systems. ÊThe class voted on the best skit and Officer Bonchak, our school's D.A.R.E. officer watched the one they chose. ÊHe liked it so much that he asked us to perform the skit at graduation. Ê

Here is the script from the skit and pictures of the event follow.

The main characters in the skit are:
Dericka Young - a drug free girl on the playground
Danielle Forgus - another drug free girl on the playground
Trevon Keene - the "smoker"
Nick Scott - having a hear attack
Tony Tusoch- hallucinating - sees dead people
Mike Balsitis - the "spazz"
The entire class - kids playing on the playground
**Some changes were made from the original skit they made for their report because it was too long and technical.


ÒDew the DewÓ ÊSkit


Danielle and Dericka are drinking Mt. Dew, jumping rope, and singing at the park. ÊOther students are pretending to be playing in the park as well. ÊFifteen seconds later, the drugged up boys come in from the right side of the stage and walk up to the girls.

Trevon: Hey whatÕs up?ÒDew the DewÓ ÊSkit

Danielle and Dericka are drinking Mt. Dew, jumping rope, and singing at the park. ÊOther students are pretending to be playing in the park as well. ÊFifteen seconds later, the drugged up boys come in from the right side of the stage and walk up to the girls.

Trevon: Hey whatÕs up?

Girls: WhatÕs up with you guys? Ê(the girls seem confused and concerned about the boys)

Dericka: Man look at you guys - your eyes are all red and glassy

Danielle: Nick why are you holding your chest like that? ÊYou having a heart attack or something? Ê(boys laugh)

Dericka: (to Nick) ÊYou look funny!

Danielle: (to all the boys) ÊI just did a report in school on drugs and how they hurt your circulatory system. ÊIf that part of your body isnÕt working right - the whole thing gets messed up.

***pause for 5 seconds to let that thought sink in

Dericka: (to Trevon) ÊDid you see ÒScary MovieÓ when that guy got shot in the chest and smoke started pouring out of him - that could be you. ÊLook at you, you havenÕt stopped coughing once since you got here.

Danielle: (toward Mike) ÊLook at him. ÊHeÕs so jacked up he canÕt even sit still.

Tony: (mumbling to himself about Babe Ruth having just hit a home run)

Dericka: (to Tony) ÊHeÕs seeing dead people now - he must be hallucinating

Danielle: You guys need to learn to say no or walk away when someone offers you drugs if you want to be NBA or NFL stars or even if you want to be a Ê Ê Ê Ê Ê. Come On, donÕt do the drugs, do the dew (say that very loud and clear) (hand each boy a Mt. Dew)!! Ê (Boys stand up and act normal now. ÊThe whole class comes together to sing).
