Day 1 1/8 & 1/9 3rd ¼ Expectations-- Syllabus and Calendar. Check Schedules and Books Watch Act I of Caesar                Predict probable future outcomes

Day 2 1/10 & 1/11 Caesar project handout--* Due Feb 7/8--watch Braveheart starring Bob Newhart     Word Changes and Language in Shakespeare--Lord's prayer in Old English (worksheet) Establish Teaching Groups

Day 3 1/12 (1/15-MLK Holiday) & 1/16 Run-ons and Run-alongs.  Advice for deciphering Shakespeare.   Akira Kurosawa's Dreams (interpreting performance)

Day 4 1/17 & 1/18 Finish Caesar. Homework: Choose either Brutus, Casius or Antony for a writing assignment. Discuss your character's motivation. Explain what they do in the story which either expresses their basic personality flaws or goes entirely against what you expect from them. Describe what effect other character's have on their motivation. A well written paper should: -be at least 1 page -provide specific examples/support -be clear and concise -focus on the topic in question.

Day 5 1/19 & 1/20 Testing Strategies (TAAS)--Basic Strategies. Run-ons (Exercises in grammar book--followup of earlier lesson). Quiz over Caesar.

Day 6 1/23 & 1/24 Persuasion (notes on graphic organizer). Watch Much Ado About Nothing clips--answer questions that go with it. Love Letters--write anonymous 'secret admirer' letters to classmates.

Day 7   1/25 & 1/26 Caesar Notes (on advanced organizer graphic). Division into teaching groups [Handout] by teacher (each group will read their Act and answer specific questions on the Act).

Day 8 1/29 & 1/30 Groups work on teaching their Act (due 2/2 & 2/5). Watch Shakespeare performance video together.

Day 9 1/31 & 2/1 Teaching/Performing Groups (final preparations)--answer questions, organize outline and finalize all aspects of performance. Persuasive Essay Topic: TBA (written in class--concentrate on Revision skills).

Day 10 2/2 & 2/5 Teaching of Acts by Groups. Presentation/Explanation/Interrogation. Run-ons Test.

Day 11 2/6 & 2/7 Plot/Character Test over Caesar. More Testing Strategies (Distracting Answers). Notes on using Cause/Effect (on Advance Organizer graphic).

Day 12 2/8 & 2/9 Caesar satirization projects due. Presentation of groups and follow-up questions. Literary Analysis (Preparation for Steinbeck).

Day 13 2/12 & 2/13 Writing skill: Analogy (notes on Adv Org). Assign Steinbeck Project (due 3/7 & 3/8) Of Mice & Men--Begin reading Ch. 1 (Discuss last 3 minutes of class).

Day 14 2/14 & 2/15 Of Mice & Men--Finish Reading Ch. 1. Quiz over Ch.1 Of Mice and Men Writing Letters (Business Letter format).

Day 15 2/16 & 2/19 Of Mice and Men-- Read Chapter 2. Fill in Theme graphic as you read.
